The Richard Rodgers Theatre has housed the most Tony Award-winning plays & musicals in New York. 
When originally opened on February 7 1925 it was known as Chanin’s 46th Street Theatre. It was purchased by the Shuberts in 1931, and the venue reopened on October 10 1932 as 46th Street Theatre.
It became part of The Nederlander Organisation in 1982, and it was refurbished and reopened again on April 26 1990 as the Richard Rodgers Theatre, named after the composer.
