JBL was founded in 1936 by James Bullough Lansing. He also founded Lansing Company in 1927.
In 1947 JBL made the first 100mm voice coil (that could handle more power than a 70mm). The first series is the D140, followed by the K140 and afterwards the E140 and the 2225-series that are still in more modern shape for sale.
