Looks like NBC is planning to move the Tonight Show to Stage 1, but according to this article, they are going to rebuild the studio in addition to constructing support facilities for the show. _________________ "I am a young man, I ain't done very much

The Tonight Show is currently filmed at the NBC Studios just across the valley from Universal in Burbank.

Makes sense to move The Tonight Show to integrate the whole "NBC Universal Experience" with the theme park, watching a live taping on the same property etc.
Cheers

This is from and article about the redesign of Stage 1 for the relocation of NBC News and TV stations. Some of Burbank will be kept under NBC ownership while most of it will be sold. This is just a snipet of the article.
"The renovated Stage One, which was originally built in 1961 for "The Jack Benny Show," will feature a theater designed for a live audience, state-of-the-art broadcast production facilities and office space. Over the last several years, Stage One has been changed to accommodate film and TV productions, including "Knight Rider," "Jurassic Park III," " The Incredible Hulk," "Bruce Almighty" and "Desperate Housewives." _________________ Never give up, never surrender, and dare to be different! |

I truely hope this move will boost attendance for the theme park. I feel that the Tonight Show is the official west coast show for late night. It will be great to have fans of Conan O' Brian make use of the theme park facilities when they come to visit his show.
I hope NBC will realize that the park is the main draw for exposure of your brand. Update USH to a theme park for the next millenium. _________________

| When the scoring stage (10) was being renovated in the late 1960s, Universal moved scoring temporarily over to Stage 1. On the second floor there was a sound booth that looked out onto to stage with an adjacent projection room. Up till the stage was remolded to handle THE TONIGHT SHOW, the adjustable sound diffusion panels were still up on the walls. They were installed when scoring was done there. |

Two questions:
How much of Stage 1 is original?
When did Leave It To Beaver move to Universal?
The new wiki states that The Jack Benny Program was the first TV series shot at Universal. Does not seem correct since LITB should already have been there. _________________ Never give up, never surrender, and dare to be different! |

Hi
From the construction photos at http://www.thestudiotour.com/wiki/index.php?title=USH_Stage_1 it looks like most if not all of Stage 1 has survived intact, and it's just had extensions built on to house dressing rooms and audience reception rooms etc.
The size figures quoted on the same page show the length is still 100 feet, but it's increased in width, so I guess the stage itself has been extended. This probably involved demolishing one of the external walls of the Stage and rebuilding it, but I imagine the other 3 walls have remained.
You may be correct about the 'first TV show' - that was taken from a magazine article. The Leave it to Beaver information at http://www.thestudiotour.com/wiki/index.php?title=USH_Backlot_Colonial_Beaver says it was shot at Universal from 1959, so I'll correct the info on the Stage 1 page.
Best wishes
