  • The Palace Theatre was a famous vaudeville theatre. Acts that played there include: Ethel Barrymore, Harry Houdini, Will Rogers, Ethel Merman, Judy Garland, Jerry Lewis, Harry Belafonte, Bette Midler, Shirley MacLaine, and Diana Ross. Like many venues it suffered during the Depression, and became a movie theatre. The Nederlanders bought it in July 1965 and set it up to be a legitimate theatre for the opening of Sweet Charity.
